About

Hi, I'm Kathleen Walsh and I am a creative ninja. From creating presentations using LEGO bricks to making short films, I let my imagination run wild. I take bold leaps to not only sell an idea, but also create a learning tool so that others see what I see. I believe that ideas trigger more ideas and I am motivated to explain, teach, illustrate and interpret. I am a holistic thinker that always has the big picture in mind, even when concentrating on details. I enjoy integrating seemingly unrelated things and have fun pulling from disciplines of all kinds. I care deeply of making a difference and helping others. Above all, I want to empower others, build connections, and inspire.

Neon Sign Making Class at UrbanGlass in Brooklyn NYC - Glassblowing is Art and Tech!

I made using Adobe Photoshop, Adobe Premier, and Adobe After Effects. I broke one of my rules which is to never film vertically 😜...but I was attempting to make this for instagram...so...rules are made to be broken? Watch in full screen or on youTube to see it better! Or just check out my instagram 🙃.

Engineering, Art, and Science all came together in my visioneers dream the weekend of Dec 10-11, 2022 for a pure creative fest. Most people know I love tech and play - but did you know I love signs? How about neon? Well, I do. Last year I built a VR retro 80s arcade and had an amazing time playing with lighting (something I had never done before) to get that neon vibe. Since, I have made some VR art to hang on my walls behind my desk (because VR hardware looks cooler) - but I am a bigger fan of Augmented Reality! So I decided a fun project would be to create a neon sign of some glasses - with an AR "overlay".

I spent two days completely immersed in designing and making a sign at Urban Glass in Brooklyn. It was a true Visioneer's dream - the perfect blend of engineering and art - I got to bend glass, design my piece, painstakingly build it, cry a little with every 90 degree angle I couldn’t get, learn how to wire and install the sign, along with a demo of how a glass tube is processed and filled with gas to produce light. I only left with a few burnt fingers 😂.

Network Integration: Portfolio Management Team Introduction

I made this video as Chief of Staff for Network Integration at Verizon when presenting to a Senior VP about my teams mission, vision, and roadmap for 2022. Thought this was a fun way to kick off a serious presentation 😀.

Made using Adobe Photoshop, Adobe Premier, and Adobe After Effects.

2021 Stevens Institute of Technology LeadHERship Conference: Architecting Your Personal Brand

Enjoyed the opportunity on Sept 18, 2021 of being a featured speaker at the Stevens Institute of Technology's LeadHERship conference. This conference is held every two years and strives to promote and amplify the voices of women and gender minorities in STEM, a mission that strongly aligns with my personal values. I enjoyed sharing my experiences and expertise in using architecture, marketing, and business tools for personal branding! Slides can be found here.

Remember, we are all unique and are not only defined by our job titles…and our purpose and passions should drive everything we do. Do not stereotype others based on titles alone…we are all more than our job. I want to get to know the person independent of a role.

Sheroes Project S2, E5: Kathleen Walsh Interview, "Hacking Innovation: War Games & Virtual Reality"

This video is of an interview I did with the Shero Project, a group of college women who aim to address the gender divide in the tech sector by showing young women the technical achievements they are capable of, and allow them to interact with role models who they can look at, and say "Wow, I want to do what she's doing someday." I’m honored to have been chosen as a role model.

I am very excited to share my story from crashing though gates as a baby, crashing through silos in Business Architecture using wargames, to completely removing all boundaries in Virtual Reality. I hope everyone remembers to never let a job get in the way of who they are.

Virtual Talent: I May Have No Talent, But I Have A Great Hat

My group at work decided to do a virtual talent show during COVID. Everyone was asked to submit a video of their talent. My talents are not something you would typically see in a talent show, so I decided to make a little video talking about how I had no talent...while showcasing my talents 😜.

What I like best about this video is it is sort of like a time capsule of the first few months in quarantine and all the things I did. To name a few, I learned animation, played around with electronics, and got back into some programming and games. I had a blast working on this project since I got to stretch my skills and learn things I had never done before. I had been wanting to learn how to cut two films together so I could look like I was interacting with myself. That was fun to learn on this project. I filmed with my iPhone, did sound with a zoom, and edited everything together in Adobe Premier.

Personalization Gone Wrong

I work in Artificial Intelligence and personalization for marketing. This video is fictitious. Verizon takes customer data very seriously, as do I. When we use data for personalization, we must be good stewards of risk and take care for privacy. This video was created for fun, to be satirical of how it can go wrong. My team had a bit of fun to show how creepy things can get -- no one wants a Big Brother machine.

I filmed this using my iphone, used a Zoom for sound, used Adobe Photoshop for graphics, and edited everything in Adobe Premier.

Business Architecture: A Lego Story Short Film

Check out this stop-action Lego Movie I made! One day I walked into my director's office with a bunch of LEGO bricks to showcase a concept (instead of a boring presentation)--and when I was writing the article for the AL&T magazine I thought a short introductory film was a simple but effective means to communicate the benefits of business architecture to the workforce. Fun things like this helped me show others that business architecture could be used by any Army entity—and indeed, DOD itself—to break down bureaucratic silos and promote a more holistic and integrated approach to managing organizational capabilities in a way that delivers superior results. Plus, who doesn't like playing with lego bricks?

Army Acquisition, Logisitics, and Technology (AL&T) Article: Game Changer

wargame

An article I had published in the Army AL&T Magazine. Understanding the whole of Army acquisition is exceedingly difficult, and that’s why ARDEC—to change its culture, improve decision-making and unleash its own agility—created an innovative combination of war gaming and business architecture. In doing so, it has created a blueprint for the rest of the Army, and DOD.

Kathleen Walsh Value Proposition

Value Propostion

A little cartoon about why anyone would want to work with me -- I am super fun, creative, and love thinking outside the box. 🙃

Adobe Animator

I took my bitmoji and played around with Illustrator, photoshop, and Adobe Animator to present (in a fun way!) to my team that we got approval to work in UK and Spain during COVID-19 after previously being restricted to working in the U.S.

Big Brothers Big Sisters 2019 Video Competition - Winner

I love being creative with my Little Sister and trying new things with her. I will often pick something I want to learn, come up with a project for the two of us and learn with her "on the spot". I want to showcase to her that it is ok not to know something and that most people do not start off being experts. We learn through experience and by not being afraid to try new things. We filmed this video about what the program means to her and edited it in Adobe Premier. We won a competition with the NY Jets and we won tickets to a game and got to meet the players!

Biohackers

This is a film I made using an iphone for a Filmmaking class I took. I attended the Barrow Group in the summer of 2018 and learned the basics of screenwriting, wrote a scene, casted it, directed, and edited it together. Actors are Sneha Sakhare, Stuart Marland, and Lynnese Page.

This video is a scene from Biohackers. A lead scientist, Sarah Collins (Sakhare), and security officer Claire Phillips (Page) discover that China is not only ahead of us in Artificial Intelligence, but they have learned how to manipulate how our DNA is read through epigenetic's. This allows them to control future generations...affecting all Americans, including future soldiers. Phillips and Collins bring this to the Director's attention, played by Stuart Marland.

Business Architecture: The War Game

This is a movie "preview" I made when I presented my work on Strategy, Business Architecture, and War Gaming at several conferences. I had filmed one of the teams during the game and used it to provide insight to audience members during my presentations. It was a fun way to show everyone what wargaming was about.

APQC Building an Enterprise Culture of Continuous Improvement Case Study

APQC

While working for the Business Transformation Office, I was working on the Engineering the Enterprise and GameChanger concepts – and the work I was doing with business architecture and our process framework to perform change management was featured in this case study.

Engineering the Enterprise

Engineering the Enterprise

Starting in 2013, I became fascinated with the idea of applying systems engineering concepts to the Business and strategy levels of the organization. This is the first piece of work - Engineering the Enterprise - that I presented on that, combining concepts from Business Architecture, Enterprise Architecture, and Systems Engineering. It was very well accepted by the army as it provided a way to take abstract business concepts and give them insights into where pieces of the organization were breaking down.

Using Business Architecture to Disrupt a Complacent Culture

I presented different versions on my work merging multiple concepts (Business Architecture, Systems Engineering, Enterprise Architecture, Game Theory, Change Management, Strategy, process improvement, and War gaming) at the IIBA Building Capability Conference, Twin City Business Architecture Forum, and the Business Architecture Guild's Innovation Summit. This is the presentation from the BA Guild in Reston, VA. Slides can be found here.

BBC: Interview Series: Kathleen Walsh

BBC Interview

This was an interview I did with the International Institute of Business Analysis (IIBA) Building Capability Conference. My Analytics of Organizational Wargaming presentation was in the Strategic Formulation Track and part of the Business Architecture Event Trail.
